By Ronald Harwood, directed by ‘H’ Reeves

What its director describes as ‘a love letter to the theatre’ is Southwick Players’ production at the Barn Theatre this summer.

Ronald Harwood’s play is based on the author’s own experience as dresser to the legendary 20th-century actor-manager Sir Donald Wolfit.  The heart-warming drama tells of the struggle of an ageing actor’s personal assistant to keep his charge’s life together.  Set in 1942, the action takes place in the principal’s dressing room, in the wings, on stage, backstage and in the corridors of a provincial English theatre during an air raid.

‘Dramatic, funny and moving, it captures the anecdotage, egotism, bitchiness and power play among the cast and crew during a performance of King Lear.’ H Reeves
