Last year, NHS Blood & Transplant collected 2.1 million donations from about 1.6 million donors. Although that sounds a lot, it represents only 4% of the population. And the blood itself is badly needed - every day our hospitals use about 8,000 units in treating patients. For many years, the Community Centre has hosted blood donor sessions. These are now held eight times a year, in the Barn Hall. You can find details of upcoming sessions in the Centre’s on-line calendar. Or you can quickly see the next session date on this link to the national website. Almost anyone between the ages of 17 and 65 can become a blood donor, as long as they are in good health. You can find out more on the national website, where it’s possible to book an appointment on-line or via the national helpline.
