Southwick & Fishersgate Horticultural Society

About us

The “Southwick, Fishersgate and Kingston-by-Sea Allotment Holders and Gardeners’ Society” was formed during the First World War. Now called Southwick and Fishersgate Horticultural Society, we have always had a large membership and are keen participants in all the activities at the Community Centre. Our Society is affiliated not only to the Community Association, but also to the Royal Horticultural Society; the National Dahlia Society; the National Chrysanthemum Society and the British Gladiolus Society. So, all in all, we have a considerable amount of expertise to call on when required.

As well as our monthly meetings (see below) we hold other popular events through the year, including:

  • Annual plant sale  in May
  • Summer flower show  in August
  • Autumn flower & produce show  in October
  • Coach outings  to visit outstanding gardens in the region

Monthly meetings

Meetings are held in the Garden Room on the first Tuesday of the month at 2pm – except in January and August, when no meetings are held.

There is a £5 entry charge, to cover costs, which includes tea and biscuits.

The meetings cover a variety of gardening interests – illustrated talks from guest speakers, question and answer sessions, quizzes, hints and tips, etc.

Some meetings and talks this year include:-
August 19th – Summer Show
Sept 5th – RNLI Margaret Kimber
Oct 3rd – Niki Dabbs Work-on-the-hand
Oct 28th – Autumn Show
